If there was a Theme Hospital Expansion Pack
« on: November 18, 2010, 01:14:02 AM »
Hello everyone,

I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thought on this...

If an expansion pack was made for Theme Hospital, what would you like to see in it?

I personally would like to see more character variations/sprites, keeps things interesting to watch, an improvement in online play, create-your-own sickness feature and fewer earthquakes (mainly cause they are more annoying than challenging.

In general, more rooms, staff (security?) and diagnoses.

More floors with elevator/stairs?

What about an option to paint the floors/walls? More objects to decorate with...

Ie. 3 different benches with different comfort. When you dont have much money in the bank, you must use the cheapest bench, and when the income is better, you can upgrade to better benches/flowers. Just to keep the game interesting after you have $200 000 in the bank:)

And lights!

-More diagnoses
-More rooms/equipment to built
-More levels
-More personell to hire
-TCP/IP instead of the old IPX (for windows 2000 and further)
-Map-Editor (wich is in the corsix-th atm  ;))
-Fixed bugs (such as the disappearing gp's office door)
-More trophies to win
-Multiple floors in the hospital (so you can go a floor up with elevator/escalator, or stairs)
-More failing and winning conditions and movies
-Ambulance entry (where emergency people get dropped off)
-3 Different camera angles (just like in the sims, wich isn't possible atm)
-City-life, hospital laying in a city where othere people walk and drive by not going to the hospital

I like the city life idea.

It be good if you could influence the city's health... such as causing outbreak in the city to get more patients, or building/donating to influence public opinion aka reputation. It would be a nice addition, and add an interesting feature to TH.

I think, as a growing community, we should start coming up with new rooms and diseases. Mainly because at the end of the day, it would be awesome to see what we can add and build on.

I also think that new diseases can be great addition to the game. A great part of the charm of the original game were the funny diseases. So new diseases should be original en funny. They also shouldn't be (based on) existing diseases because that could offend people
A brilliant disease that was mentioned on the 'OpenTH Blog': The Helvetica Scenario
Quote
HELVETICA SCENARIO
causes: the side-effect of the collapse of a calcium molecule
description: the patient loses (literally) his face
cure: a nurse must prepare a mixture of honey and milk to attract the queen atom back to it

In real hospitals X-rays can be taken by doctors or nurses, maybe some variation like that. I do like the PR idea, maybe you get vandalism (spray painting seems most fitting type) that the handymen have to clean up.

What bothers me with vanilla TH is that after the sixth level, it's just more of the same, you just have higher requirements to meet and more disease to treat, there are no new rules added. The first level introduced the basics and inspectors visits, in the second level it's emergencies, in the third it's research, in the fourth it's training, in the fifth it's earthquakes, in the sixth it's epidemic alerts, and after that, nothing.

If there was a TH expansion with 10+ more levels, I'd like if a new rule (multiple floors, security, etc) was added every 1 or 2 levels, so the game doesn't run out of content and stays fresh until the very end of the game, unlike vanilla TH.

Youre just being taught certain skills and how to implement them into your hospital. After level 6 you get a hospital and you need to show the skills that you have learnt in order to succeed.

It would be fun if you could see the other players hospitals in the future, where you have a city and there are four hospitals and you need to compete with them in order to win. But thats just dreaming away ;)

I see it differently, more like "So, you can handle training your own doctors? How about we throws earthquakes in the mix? Or epidemics? Let's see how you handle that!" It made the difficulty ramps up faster and kept the game interesting and rewarding as there was always something new to look forward to.

Earthquakes and epidemics are original behaviour so it seems they will be done earlier than new ideas. I can't think how something like an ER department would work well. Paint and benches of different comfort would be good.

They seem to already be going towards extra customizability with extra hospital config files, I think more/less earthquakes/etc would be in that.

A&E. The doctors go to the patients' beds, rather than the patients to the GP's office. Thinking about it, do real hospitals even have a GP's office? People go to hospital either by an Ambulance/ A&E (where their conditions are unknown), or they go prediagnosed. Wards would have to be a lot bigger.

It's a pretty big change to how the whole system works, really. If/when (hopefully when) modding comes into the game someone will be able to code it up.

When patients are ill enough that would probably be the case, but at least here in sweden you normally just make an appointment with your doctor at the clinic and once there you're sent to the room he's in from the reception. Possibly you're referred to a specialist after that. You can also just go there and see if he has some time to spare at the moment, very much like in TH.
