Understanding the Receptionist

I have been playing Theme Hospital many years now and because I lost the book there are some things that I still don't know about the game. I only recently discovered what the fire extinguishers were needed for.

One thing that I still don't know about is what effect does the receptionist desk have on the rate of patients?

If I had a high reputation would I get more patients if i had more than one receptionist desk?

No, the amount of reception desks doesn't have anything to do with amount of patients (unless you have no desks (and/or receptionist), then you get no patients).
The only increase in patient flow is made by getting better reputation I think.

In later levels where there are more patients it pays to have more than one and better skilled receptionists as they deal with patients quicker - so you don't get queues building up.  I think that some of this behaviour is already in TH, but not all as yet.
