To many radiators?
« on: March 11, 2012, 01:08:11 PM »
I think the game is unbalanced regarding radiators. I need a lot of them everywhere!

You need one for every room, since the heat can't penetrate walls (as far as I know).
But you can always turn up the heat (in the city map).

It does penetrate walls. It's colder outside during the winter than during the summer. You can see how it flows quite clearly in the town map.

At the town map, you can set how much heat they give out.

If you want to make a case for changing it, you should run a comparison between the original TH and CTH.

yeah the balance of radiators is hard to find for me as well... i start placing them, first i had to few, then a month later to many.. then i try to balance heat/cold to the present month but 10min later i allready need to adjust this. doesnt really add to the fun.

I usually stick with two radiators in a 4x4 room, three in a 5x5 and four in bigger rooms (in large ward rooms even five-six).
In the past, that was sufficient to prevent complains. Nowadys, you need to turn the heat up just a bit, and then it works fine.

I found the secret is in watching the town map and placing radiators such that you get an evenly coloured heat map. Also watch the how warm or cold people are on average to decide to turn the heat or down. I think this display is reacting very slowly, so don't over-compensate.

Since it is mostly evenly warm everywhere (evenly coloured map), 'on average' holds for everywhere, and changes in heat are also changed by the same amount everywhere.

As for fun, well, TH is a micro-management game, so what would you expect :p

I think 1 in every room and a few in the hallways should be more than enough.

In CorsixTH, default campaign options, if in the corridors, how many tiles does the heat of the radiator reach?

In the vanilla game, does the radiator penetrate walls?

Our system is much more "lifelike" which is why it also seems to be harder to understand. Season changes were not in the original, and I think that if you placed a new radiator in the original it would instantaneously have effect on its influence area. In CorsixTH it takes some time for the heat to spread.
