Deleting in map editor
« on: January 07, 2015, 04:17:30 PM »
hello!

Is it possible to remove walls ect without having to undo loads of other work just to get to the wall you want gone?

I basicly i want to turn a walled section into a door but placing the door tiles doesnt work your just stuck with the two sections of the door and a bit of wall in the middle.

i cant seem to find any way to remove just the wall and not half my map with it!

Thanks Ben

Edit i have found a way to delete walls that go diaginal down/right up/left (this doesnt work for the other walls :( ) if you place the bush floor on the tile net to the wall you want removed the wall will dissapear. you just then turn that bush back to grass. I took a screenshot to show example. (See attachment)

this now leads to another problem! placing the bush all the way along right to the wall causeing it to delete that wall means we have to stop the bush trial one tile before the wall. Is this a known issue?

How do you do when you remove half of your map? I usually just draw some floor over the wall I want to remove.
For the end of the world spell, press Control, Alt, Delete.

With the walls the intention is that you use the edging tiles around the building, then place garden items up to those tiles.
You cannot place garden items (most if not all) as they share the same edge and one will delete the other - as you have found out.
As already stated by lego, we tend to use floor tiles through a wall if we want a gap for a door and then repaint the floor where needed.  with grass or floor depending which you used to create the gap.
The other way is to make sure you leave a gap to start with.

I suggest you look at the maps we include in the custom section, you will then get the idea.

Other things you have to take into account is there must be a path to the edge.
The helipad must have access to plot 1
watch how you do your plots, otherwise you could end up with gaps when playing the map.

On the whole it takes a long time to create a playable map and a lot of trial and error.

@Lego: regarding your question "How do you do when you remove half of your map?" I think he refers to the undo button

thanks for the reply!

I have got everything on the map working perfect. I looked at the wiki page for the map editor and figred out the helipad from there. maybe someone could update it with the removing of walls? i had tried the floor tiles before to remove walls but it never worked but i just tried it again and it worked. I have no idea what i did wrong the first time.

Next question now haha

i finished making my map and have set it up on the Level editor. i am aming to make it so i get an emergancy come through every few mins and the population gradully get bigger to by year 3 being manic.

when i set it up for first year i got regualr emergancy as planned (i used the semi-random and set interval to 60) but after the first year they stopped and i never got any?

with the population i expermented. when you set the change per month does that mean say i put 5 i would get 5 more people than the month before? if thats the case that would explain why by year 2 my hospital was packed and not enough rooms/space for people ha

Sounds about right.  I always add a line with 0 to stop that and a minus to start reducing numbers
So for 5 I would then three months later add a 0 from then on.  So you would get 5, then 10, then 15 from then onwards

I have checked the wiki and it already tells you to use floor tiles to remove built walls
