Official announcements / Corsix TH - Beta 6 released!

CorsixTH - Beta 6

Beta 6 of CorsixTH will be released on March 24th, 2011, in line with our three-month release schedule. A number of new features and bugfixes have been implemented since the last beta. The changelog can be found below.

Gameplay
  • Feature: Staff speed!
  • Added: All parts of research have been implemented, including machine strength improvements, drug improvements and the "concentrate research" button in the drug casebook.
  • Added: Overdraft charges for having a negative balance.
  • Fix: The length of a day was about half as long as it should be.
  • Fix: A few occurrences of bone-idle patients have been resolved.
  • Fix: Juniors were not correctly labeled as Doctors after promotion.
  • Fix: Some crashes regarding receptionists.
  • Fix: Never charge less than initial cost when reputation is below 500.
  • Fix: Some repair animations were too short.
  • Fix: Don't check winning and losing conditions so often.
  • Fix: Taking loans can now make the player avoid losing.
  • Fix: Level 7 had an emergency with an unavailable disease.
  • Fix: Doctors on their way back to the research room or training room will no longer answer to any calls.
  • Fix: Don't crash if a patient in a machine is sent home.

User Interface
  • Feature: The drug casebook now shows if you can treat a disease or not, and in the latter case the tooltip tells you what is missing. Actual price is shown after some time, instead of charge %.
  • Feature: Press and hold on value buttons will now make the value continue to increase until the button is released again.
  • Feature: The Theme Hospital installation path can be changed from the options menu.
  • Added: The adviser will help out in a few more situations.
  • Fix: Mouse position events such as moving staff around didn't work when scrolling using the arrow keys.
  • Fix: Tooltips are now updated more frequently, most evidently in the research pane.

Translations
  • Feature: CorsixTH now supports TrueType fonts via FreeType2!
  • Feature: To assist translators a new diff file is now created when you choose the debug option "dump strings" (with languages other than English). It contains those strings which are either found in English but not in the given language, or found in the given language but not in English.
  • New languages: Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Russian.

CorsixTH - Beta 5

Beta 5 of CorsixTH has been released on December 24th, 2010, as our annual Christmas present to Theme Hospital fans. Due to the out-of-schedule release of beta 4 at SVN revision 1000, there are not an excess of flashy new features, but beta 5 does contain a number of bug fixes and improvements over beta 4.

Amongst other fixes, a bug was fixed that caused an error when building the operating theatre in certain cases, along with one which caused bone-idle patients. Many of you will be pleased to know that cheats were added to the game, activated in the same way as the original game.

Finally, to address the boredom which comes from seeing the same levels over and over again, we've thrown in a brand new custom map called Avatar with a unique challenge, and if that isn't enough, additional custom maps can be found in our community forums.

Yesterday the CorsixTH development team announced the upcoming Beta 5! This new version will again be released within the 3-month release plan meaning it'll be available on the day before christmas! More information below.

Since this announcement another major feature has made it into Beta 5: the so called "Staff calls refactoring", which is a new bit of code that sends staff to and from rooms, makes handymen repair machines, water plants and so on.. expect your staff to really pick up the pace!

Hospital Café / How To: activate cheats on Beta 4

Welcome to another tutorial, for all people out there who want to use cheats in CorsixTH! Since r1067 it is possible to activate cheats in the way you used to, but since you're reading this you're probably still on the standard Beta 4, please remember that upgrading to the latest revision may bring bugs that weren't present in Beta 4.

Step 1
Download the latest build here

Step 2
Rightclick the zip file (or open it) and extract the contents into your CorsixTH installation folder



Step 3
Start CorsixTH and play a game! When a fax comes up type in the code '24328' on the fax machine and hit the green button



That's it! Now all you have to do is select which cheats you wish to use



Hospital administrator is a cheater! ;)

Hospital Café / How To: modify CorsixTH gameplay through .Lua files

Tired of staff asking for a raise? Want more patients? Can't get your hospitals to make decent money?

There's a lot of things you can easily change through the Lua backend of CorsixTH, first of all I'd like to apologise that all my windows stuff is in dutch, but I'll give english directions as we go!


Stop staff asking for a raise
I got fed up with the endless whining of my staff, so I decided to do something about that, the first thing we'll need is a program to open the .Lua files, I used notepad (kladblok in dutch): start notepad



Next click on file --> open (bestand --> openen in the picture) and open the subdirectory \Lua\entities\ in the map where CorsixTH is installed, in my case that's C:\Hospital\Lua\entities
In the bottom right select 'all files(*.*)' instead of 'textfiles (*.txt)'



Open staff.lua
Now go to the 'edit' menu and select go to (bewerken --> ga naar, in my dutch picture)



When it asks for a line number, enter 112
Now we start modifying the code



Find the line "-- Make staff members request a raise if they are very unhappy" and add two single lines in front of each line below it right up to the last "end", as shown in the picture above



The final step is to save the file (File --> Save) and (re)start CorsixTH for the changes to take effect!

Maps / Tiny Trouble

Description
Tiny Trouble is a very small hospital that will see all diseases that the big hospitals see, this means you'll have to make choices on what you build, how many of it you're building and which diseases you will treat! More than once will you ask yourself if you should build another x-ray to stop the queues from growing or buy a training facility to maintain a good supply of qualified and cheap doctors.

Installation
Download both the .level and .map file and place both in your corsix installation under /LEVELS/, now start up CorsixTH, click on 'own level' and select "Tiny Trouble"

Cure: Surgeons remove the ropes from the patients ankles and wrists
Diagnostic process: GP's office, X-Ray, Scanner
would require new animations/graphics

Maps / Heavens Gate Hospital

Description
The first map to be released here (unless someone beat me to it while writing this post!), it's a medium sized hospital with a bit of an unlogic pattern in the buildings. There is no set objective in this level.

Installation
Download either both the .level and .map file and place both in your corsix installation under /LEVELS/, now start up CorsixTH, click on 'own level' and select "Heavens Gate"

Basicly what it says, rather than wandering around until they are called to a room, doctors and nurses should check if there are empty rooms and go there
